What is the safe way to download PDF Acrobat Reader?

Q. so last time i tried to download Pdf Acrobat Reader i ended up with a virus that totally wrecked my system, whole Windows system needed to be reuploaded....it was a mess, so is there a safe way i can myself download pdf Acrobat without anything messing up my system, any "safe" websites or do i have to go out and buy the reader and install it?

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!
